Malaysia - Penang

6:20 PM

I’m currently on my mid semester break! After a hectic week of assignments and presentations, my friends and i drove to Penang for a road trip. I love love road trips. We rented a car big enough to fit 7 people and left Kuala Lumpur really early. I burnt songs into a CD (yep, old school) and enjoyed the 4-5 hour drive with gorgeous greenery. Seriously, the highway to Penang is beautiful.

We reached Penang at 11am but it was too early to check into Tune Hotel. So we decided to eat lunch! I got Chor Keu tieau for only 5RM. 5RM!!! That’s equivalent to $1! We then walked around Georgetown. The town is small, old and some of the architecture reminds me a lot of the architecture in Europe.

After lunch we rented our own bike for only 8RM ($1.84). The weather was perfect to cycle in because later during the day it got way too hot. We cycled for around 2 hours, looking at murals, stopped to eat some cold cendol, went to the seaside then gave our bicycles back. There were times where I would freak out when we tried to cross the road, but it was so fun.

Checked in our hotel, showered, took a nap then went out to Penang Hill. We arrived when it just got dark, went on a steep tram to get to the top and saw a beautiful view of Penang at night. So many lights, loved it.

The second day, we all woke up early at 7 and left for the beach! We went to Ferringhi Beach and we kept driving along the coast until we found a spot. Since it was early, there was barely anyone. I love the beach and we found the perfect spot. Secluded and beautiful. We climbed rocks, buried my friend in sand and swam (tried to take cool videos of us diving into the sea but failed). I loved it when the sun finally came up and started getting hot. I wanted to stay longer but we had to go back to checkout early, but just imagine swimming there the whole day and eating with your friends. Ah, definitely coming back to Penang for the beach.

We did some last minute shopping before driving back to Kuala Lumpur and told ghost stories in the car. It was a short and beautiful trip, I laughed way too much!
